ST. LOUIS (Mom’s Basement) – As reported by Hal McCoy of the Dayton Daily News earlier this week, Cincinnati Reds second baseman Brandon Phillips expressed his dislike of the Cardinals by calling them “little bitches, all of ‘em”.
After Phillips opened the series between the Cardinals and Reds with an 0-5 performance in the Reds’ 7-0 loss, the bombastic infielder is now backing off his controversial statements. In a comment this morning, Phillips attempted to clarify,
“You guys misquoted me,” Phillips said to a throng of media on Tuesday morning at Cincinnati’s Great American Ballpark.
“What I was saying was that the Cardinals remind me of whiny, little bitches and as we all know, a bitch is a female dog. Nothing is cuter than a little puppy that is whining. If anyone should know that, it’s Tony La Russa since he’s all into animals and sh*t.”
He added, “I don’t know why everyone is all riled up. Dogs is fun. So is playing the Cardinals.”
When asked to clarify what he meant when he was quoted as saying, “I hate the Cardinals”, Phillips claimed he was taken out of context and offered no further explanation.
Upon hearing Phillips’ revised remarks, Tony La Russa issued a statement to the press that read: “He’s right, dogs are fun.”
